Mânăstirea Vodiţa – Vodiţa Monastery

Istoricul manastirii:

Manastirea Vodita din judetul Mehedinti reprezinta cea mai veche ctitorie voievodala atestata documentar din Romania, administrata autonom dupa regulile bisericii orientale stabilite de Sfantul Vasile cel Mare. Ea a fost ridicata intre anii 1370-1372 de Sfantul Nicodim pe cheltuiala voievodului Vladislav I. Toate daniile facute Manastirii Vodita, de Vladislav voievod au fost intarite ulterior de urmasii acestuia: Dan I, Mircea cel Batran, Dan al-II-lea, Vlad Dracul si Radu cel Frumos. Chiar si Sigismund de Luxemburg, regele Ungariei (1387-1437) a recunoscut si confirmat posesiunile acordate Manastirii Vodita de domnitorii romani, iar Stefan Lazarovici, despotul Serbiei ii daruieste in anul 1406, 10 sate sarbesti.

Expansiunea Imperiului Otoman de la sfarsitul secolului al XV-lea pentru cucerirea popoarelor Europei a influentat in mod nemijlocit existenta Manastirii Vodita. Astfel dupa ocuparea cetatii Sfantului Nicodim sunt confirmate, pe rand, Manastirii Tismana. Manastirea Vodita va mai fi pomenita, din nou, abia intr-un hrisov din 14 octombrie 1662 cand staretul acestei chinovii, arhimandritul Nicodim a primit un ajutor de 350 de ruble de la Tarul Rusiei, Alexei Mihailovici.

Mai tarziu intr-un document din 15 iunie 1689, se precizeaza ca Vodita ar fi fost rezidita din temelie de Cornea Brailoiu, pe vremea cand era mare aga. De asemenea ea este mentionata alaturi de celelalte manastiri din Oltenia pe harta intocmita in anul 1700 de stolnicul Constantin Canatacuzino. Chiar si domnitorul Constantin Brancoveanu a acordat printr-un hrisov emis la 10 martie 1705, scutiri ,,schitului ce iaste la Vodita care iaste langa Dunare acolo unde si mai inainte scaun de manastire mare au fostu facuta de Sfantul Nicodim”.  Din acelasi zapis se pare ca unele lucrari de refacere ale acestei manastiri ar fi executate si de Athanasie, staretul de atunci al Manastirii Tsimana.

In urma razboiului Austo-Turc incheiat cu pacea de la Pasarovitz din anul 1718, Manastirea va cunoaste o noua perioada de decadere. Ea va mai fi mentionata doar pe harta intocmita in anul 1720 de Samuelis Koleseri. La data de 5 septembrie 1891 episcopul Ghenadie al Ramnicului efectueaza o vizita canonica la Vodita, descriind ruinele Manastirii. Din biserica celei mai vechi ctitorii voievodale atestate documentar mai ramasesera doar catvea ziduri, iar din chiliile inconjuratoare se mai vedeau doar temeliile. In perioada 1991-1995 s-a construit aici un corp de chilii, in  care se mai afla staretia si trapeza manastirii (sala de mese). De asemenea in anul 1995 a inceput executia unei frumoase biserici din lemn, la realizarea careia au fost preluate si unele elemente din stilul traditional maramuresean. In prezent, noua biserica este terminata si a fost sfintita la data de 29 iulie 2001 de Ialt Prea Sfintia sa Teofan, Mitropolitul de atunci al Olteniei.

History monastery:

Monastery of Mehedinti Vodita is the oldest attested princely foundation in Romania, managed autonomously by the rules established by the Eastern Church Saint Basil the Great. It was built between 1370-1372 by St. Nicodemus the expense of Prince Vladislav I. All donations made Vodita Monastery, the prince Vladislav were subsequently strengthened its descendants: Dan I, Mircea the Old, Dan-II, Vlad Dracula and Radu the Handsome. Later in a document of 15 June 1689, states that Vodita was rebuilt from the foundation of Cornea Brailoiu, when he was big aga. Also it is mentioned along with other monasteries in Oltenia on the map drawn in 1700 by Steward Constantin Canatacuzino. Church oldest documented voivodal were left only some walls and the surrounding cells still see only the foundations. In the period 1991-1995 there was built a block of rooms, where there is also abbey and monastery refectory (dining hall). Also in 1995, construction of a beautiful wooden churches, the achievements that have been taken and some elements of Maramures traditional style. Currently, the new church was completed and consecrated on 29 July 2001 Yalta Grace to Theophanes, Metropolitan of Oltenia then.
